From caption: "[The photo] was taken about 1899 in the center of Clarendon where the present Baptist Church now stands. The corn was being grown by William Ball. The boy on the horse is the late Al Thompson. The horse is Bash who was owned by Squire Ned Thompson who was a Lieutenant in Mosby's Rangers. The horse became famous because of his extreme age, dying at the age of thirty-eight. Note that there is not a house in sight although this is in the very center of the Clarendon development of today."
