Records of The Arlington County Department of Health, 1928-1984 Finding Aid:
The Arlington County Department of Health began operations in 1919 and still functions as a division of the Department of Human Services. In 1919 the Department of Health was one of the first full-time county departments for health services in the nation.
RG 21 is only a small portion of the Health Department's history, but many of the issues are truly noteworthy. Of particular interest is the collection of scrapbooks. The scrapbooks contain miscellaneous materials outlining the department's yearly achievements. The collection also houses reports and surveys concerning civil defense, chest x-rays, tuberculosis and disaster survival.

Researchers interested in the early development and organization of municipal health systems and health care services from the 1930s to present will find this collection valuable. The collection holds informational value, as well as administrative value in its documentation of an early Arlington County department.
